Romberger said no emergency meetings have been schedule at this time. _A contractor cannot be chosen until the board meets again. _Township secretary Faye Romberger said they have known about the decision since Tuesday and the bridge will remain closed until repairs are done. _Township engineer Steve Barber warned supervisors that PennDOT might do this if they dragged their feet. _“We don't want to just put a band aid on it unless we have to,” said Mark McCurdy. _In spite of having opened six bids received for the project, supervisors delayed while they explore other options including replacing the bridge instead of repairing it. _PennDOT closed the bridge in reaction to a June 11 decision by Carroll Township supervisors to delay a decision on which contractor would do the repairs on the bridge that failed inspection last fall. We left the observing field at 1:00 a.m._The Spring Lane Road bridge over Dogwood Run is closed until further notice. My wife, who eventually joined me there, and I looked at a number of DSOs (M5, M13, M51, M81, M82, and M92 to name a few) through an 11" Celestron SCT, 12 and 18" ATM Dobs, and a 12" Orion SkyQuest XX12i IntelliScope Truss Dob. Unfortunately, the night was very dewy but I was able to locate a few objects with a Stellarvue 115T refractor, even though the finder scope was fogged up. ![]() We also saw most of a fine pass of the ISS, as well as a fairly bright meteor, through one of the holes in the west before the skies began to clear in earnest. Before that time, we were able to catch a few peeks of Venus, Saturn, and a few stars now and then through sucker holes. The skies didn't clear until well after 11:00 p.m. During the evening, a plane, possibly a Piper Cub, and an ultralight aircraft buzzed the field. It was neat to see its 42" diameter radial engine up close. An old Cessna 195 taildragger was at the far end. I saw a number of familiar faces there, including several YCAS members, a fellow ASH member, and a few people that I knew from various star parties. I've been to the MDSP many times over the years but only once since the site was moved to its present location near Wellsville. ![]() As it turned out, it was certainly worth making the 19-mile trip, which is by far the shortest I've ever had to travel to get to a major star party. I attended the Mason-Dixon Star Party yesterday afternoon and evening. ![]()
